What colour would go with my chestnut mare?

I have just bought a liver/red chestnut mare and Im not sure of a name or a colour to go with her!

she is an arab X (she has a really arabey face) and she has 2 long white sockes and one shorter one as well as a blaze/star. I think she would go with gold and light blue but its really hard to find things in those colours!

Also, with the names, her name at the moment is Zara (Bellsview Zahara) and i think she would suit an indian/african name. at the moment my list is--- Breeza

Tiger Lily

Spice

Melody

and i would like something to do with 'wish' ( because as soon as i saw her i wished on an eyelash-my wish was that we could get her)

that doesnt really make sense but oh well!!!

THANKYOU-I KNOW ITS A HARD ONE!

What colour would go with my chestnut mare?
Wish On An Eyelash

as for colours - hunter green, navy blue or maroon, light blue, pale green, pale pink

emerald green with pale green trim
Reply:Name wise, I like to get to know a horse before naming as it should suit their personality.

Colours that suit: green is very good - we have a chestnut tb colt who is a very deep chestnut and goes positivly orange in the winter and he looks stunning in a deep green, forest or hunter type shades. The gold would look good, but I would think a dark blue would be better. We mix the green and gold as it looks really good and suits most colours of horse.
Reply:Sorrels, bays and all reddish colored horses look beautiful in any shade of blue or green and white. Try to stay away from reds, oranges, yellows, purples and metallics (gold silver adn bronze) because they can fool the eye into thinking the coat is very orange brassy and dull. For the show ring your best bet would be some form of teal. Its dark enough to be classy but with her coat will catch the judges eye and it doesn't show dirt (a huge factor in horsecare lol). As far as her name goes... to be completely honest, its never a good idea to change a horses name. They are VERY VERY intelligent animals and that is something that is burnt into their memory from an early age. It's something that they understand and respond to usually with no questions asked. If you change it its like trying to change a 2 year old childs name out of the blue.. they dont understand what you're doing and don't know what your reasoning is... so it takes them a long time to put everything back in perspective and undersand that it is them you're talking to... Just like if you just for some reason start calling your mom some made up name... she's gonna be clueless... hahah... Let her keep her name as her identity... its something she's established long before she established a relationship with you.... and if she ever doubts her trust in you... her name is a reassurance that she can trust you...
Reply:pink ! definatelyy
Reply:Odds are that your initial attempts at braiding will not be attractive. It's better to show with a natural mane than messy braids. I would just groom the mane well, make sure it lays over neatly, and spend some time practicing at home.

The way I was taught involves the use of yarn to secure the braids. some people can get a mane to turn out using rubber bands, but I've never been able to.

Pull the horse's mane so that it is short and even. Divide the mane into small sections (larger sections will get pulled more if the horse reaches for a hay bag or stretches down for free walking). If the horse has a tough to control mane, you can give yourself extra grip by dampening it with a stiff brush dipped in water. Some will also use hair gel, but in my experience that will collect dust

Braid each section tightly in a normal braid. Part way down each, introduce a section of yarn the color of your horse's mane. Hold the yarn at the midpoint, pass it underneath the braid, and introduce each half into a section of the braid. Continue braiding to the tip of the mane and tie the yarn off.

Repeat with all sections.

Now you go back and make your buttons. For this you will need a plastic blunt ended needle (forget what they're called). Thread your yarn through the needle, and use it to double the braid underneath itself right at the crest. Pull the yarn up through, wrap the yarn around the braid, and tie a tight square knot.

Repeat until finished
Reply:Here are some colors that would go well with your horse:

Baby Blue

Red

Navy Blue

Hunter Green

Lime Green

Royal Blue

Yellow

Black

White

My favorite name:

Tiger Lily (Lily for short)

and Spice
Reply:Purple or green would be nice.
Reply:I like the name Spice - or on the spice theme maybe saffron or saffy for short or even just Amber?

Anyway I have 2 liver chestnut mares, both of which look stunning in their dark green saddle cloths.

As for the name with wishes in it - how about

"If wishes were kisses"

Good luck with your new mare and have many happy years together!
Reply:yes i agree with what someone above me said

green looks very good on chestnuts

my boy is no exception

a dark blue is good as well, and black goes well with almost any colour

except black

and i like the name spice :D

sorry i'm pretty crappy at thinking up names
Reply:I always have to look at an animal before thinking of a name for it. I think the name "Zara" is really pretty. My boy's orriginal name was "Kalik" when I got him as a colt but I didn't like that so changed it to Sundance Dreammings ("Dreamer"). "Sundance" because of his gorgeous copper/red color and "Dreammings" because it was a dream come true to get my first horse. Our other boy was 12 when we got him from the rescue and named "Bovine". Rather than change the name since he does respond to it somewhat, we just call him "Bo" and that name fits him.

As far as colors, I've got a sorrel gelding that's copper in his summer coat and deep red in the winter coat. His halter/leadrope/blanket are all royal blue and they look absolutly gorgeous on him. His tack is black with hunter green trim, beautiful! I've found that darker colors work better for chestnuts and lighter for bays/black. Never liked the pastel colors on any horse. We've got a red halter/leadrope for our bay tobiano with reddish leather tack and it looks really good on him. Gold %26amp; blue sounds like it'd be gorgeous on your liver mare.
Reply:id stick with zara, i love that name especialy on an araby chestnut.
Reply:I think any type of blue or green would look nice...she could probably even pull off a bright orange or any other bright colour as well.
Reply:Black always looks good and classic on a chestnut. So does white if you can manage to keep it clean.

Why not just call her Wish or Lucky Lash ?
Reply:I'm not suggesting a name as I have heard its bad luck to do that and then my friend changed her horses name and he nearly died because his Laminitus was so bad.

As for colors, dark blue or hunter green.
Reply:I like dark rich coors. try a dark blue, red, or green, that way it wont get as dirty and will still be classy!!
Reply:I think that blue always suits chestnuts.

Seeing as its an exotic horse (from the sound of it) try a rich, possibly royalish blue

Im sure it will be lovely.
Reply:green is always a great way to go. a really nice rich emerald green would look gorge with the colour and green is quite easy to come by with horse equipment!!!!! if u want to change her full name you could call her "top of the Wish List" (or something similar) and call her Wish round the stable!!!!
Reply:Royal blue always works on chestnuts, green also works on certain shades, and white and black are just classics, you can never fail with them. And I like the name Zara.
Reply:well i reackon navy??????? or light blue ive got a horse to shes a bay she wears navy and black!!!!!!!!!
Reply:blue is a good color... red actually looks great on them (my friend has a chesnut half arab/saddlebred) just about any color looks good on them..
Reply:from having a chestnut Arab, you either want nice lite colors. but personally, id go for a rich color.

Burgundy and gold... Dark blue and gold.

my personal choice would be....rich red ( it Will look amazing) with gold maybe add a light cream to blend it down a bit.

Also for a name maybe melody's wish. if not something elegant, like Arabs are!!

Good luck with what ever you choose and your horse!
